First Foxglove meet for 2019/2020 season – Modified Program
Northern Districts Little Athletics Club – a community based not-for-profit sports club – welcomes returning and new members for Week 1 of our 2019-20 season!
Be at Foxglove Oval for an 815AM warm-up ahead of an 830AM start, a fun way to stay fit and healthy over the Summer. Feel free to come and trial with us for a week at no expense, and strive with our other athletes to achieve your personal best.
We are embracing a fresh approach to the season, so stay tuned for:
- freshened up programs to grow younger athlete skills, assist first timers to learn new events, and allow older athletes more control over their choice of events;
- a new website, and records and results system; and
- a plan to help willing parents and senior athletes to assist our developing juniors.
To commence this season, we really want to place a big focus on enjoying athletics safely – including both a focus on the way we run events, but also the physical mechanics of engaging in the events. As such, we intend our first two weeks to be a big drive on skills both for athletes (in some cases teaching new disciplines, and in other teaching ways to further grow performance) but also for parents (to help understand how the events are run safely and time effectively). This two-week program will set the foundation for a fantastic season in which all our little athletes can perform safely, and our parents can engage confidently in the weekly events.
To register online and for more information see our website (after 1 August 2019) www.ndlac.org.au/registration. The canteen will be open, and uniforms will be available for purchase.
Who knows, we may discover our next Australian representative to follow in the shoes of Alysha Burnett – former NDLAC athlete and Commonwealth Games representative – or Sally Pearson, Dani Stevens or Usain Bolt!!

Zone Championships AVAILABILITY & EVENT PREFERENCE NOMINATIONS due
The Zone Championships is for age groups U7-17 and will be held on Sat 30th Nov – Sun. 1st Dec. 2019 at the Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen. Zone Championships is a competition where Little Athletes have the opportunity to represent Northern Districts against Little Athletes from other clubs in our Zone. Athletes who register their interest are selected to represent the club.
- U7 to U11 may participate in a maximum of 4 events each, with a maximum of 4 participants from each Centre in any one event.
- U12 to U17 may participate in up to 6 events each, with unlimited entry from each Centre in each event.
U12-17 athletes can nominate their events. Due to limitations on the number of participants from each Centre for the U7-11 Age Groups, for these Age Groups we get athletes to nominate their event preferences and the Championships team will work through these to make selections, placing as many athletes in their desired events as possible. Please note that we cannot guarantee that every athlete preference will be met.
To show your availability and submit your preference, we require families to complete a google doc at this link https://forms.gle/Z4ppPhQYB36NadMEA by Sunday 10th November. If we have not heard from you by that date, we will assume that your child is not available for selection. NB: The Program for this year’s Zone carnival has varied slightly from last year. We will provide a copy of the new program on the NDLAC website Zone Championships page once available.
If your child completes at Zone, one parent per family will be required to assist at least once during the weekend. You can make a selection of your preferred assistance on the google doc.
If you would like further details, or you have any questions, please ask to speak to one of our Championships Officers at our weekly Foxglove meets.

Multievent Program (note: early start for U13-17 from 745am)
This season’s Multievent Championship at Foxglove Oval on Saturday, 1st February 2020. The competition structure is similar to last November’s Pentathlon, where athletes accumulate points for their performances (not placings) across all the events they compete in on the day. As well as being an excellent warm-up for next month’s Region Championship, all athletes may use their total score as an extra event towards their yellow/green/red/blue achievement levels.
Events for all age groups (except U13-17s — see below*) will start at 8.30am. Athletes arriving late will miss the opportunity to accrue points from any events conducted in their absence. Awards will be presented to the top three point scorers in each age group, provided they make a reasonable attempt at ALL events.
*Under 13 to 17 athletes will need to be at Foxglove by 7.45am sharp for their first two events — long jump and shot put.
Sat 08 – Sun 9 Feb 2020

Middle Distance Handicap. – 8am sign-on for 815am start
All U11-17 athletes (not U10 as previously the case) are invited to compete in the 20th running of the prestigious NDLAC Middle Distance Handicap to be held 8.15AM SHARP prior to our regular program on Saturday 22 Feb 2020.
This is a mixed age race over 1500M with a difference – athletes do not make a pack start but are instead allocated a time handicap after which they start, based on their own times. It is OPEN TO ALL U11-17 ATHLETES.
As competitors will be allocated a time handicap, the winning boy and girl will not necessarily be the fastest runners, which creates some great competition and tight finishes!!
The first three boys and girls across the line will be awarded trophies at our end of season presentation night, whilst the names of the two winners will be inscribed on perpetual trophies. Two additional prizes will also be awarded to the boy and girl whose net running time is closest to a time they nominate before the race starts (no watches please!).
Any athlete interested in competing should be at Foxglove Oval no later than 8am to receive their handicaps, record their net time prediction and warm up. The handicap stopwatch will start at 8.15am.
